Contingency

The creation is inherently contingent since, even if it were possible to prove that every occurrence is totally rational and necessary for the functioning of the whole, the existence of the whole can never be rationally explained. Acceptance of free will must necessarily include contingency. Thought is said to be the continuous combination of the antitheses of the rational with pantheism as its ultimate, and irrationality with the consequence of polytheism. Life in the world rationally demands a fixed and universal law together with irrational vitality, multiplicity and freedom. This leads to inevitable contradictions and incoherences despite traditions, such as Judaeo-Christian theism, which take cognizance of both sides at once.
