Centrality

1. The quality or state of being central.

2. The degree to which a particular point, by the number and importance of its relationships to other such points, emerges as being more central with respect to them than is any other point. Indexes of centrality can be developed to give precise meaning to this notion which finds its main application in the study and description of social networks and patterns of human settlement, for which there is a central place theory (separately described).
